Basically there are two perspectives, internal and external. Is the company performing well enough to earn a profit and is the company offering a product or service that meets and beats demand?

Management has certain expectations and wants to receive feedback on how close targets are being met. There are different areas where targets may be set. Production is of primary importance, however, maintenance is another since it indicates the presence of competition.
